THE MIDWAY SPACE STATION

The Midway Space Station marked a triumphant feat of planetary unity following the end of the Great Schism War 40 solar cycles ago. The first phase of the station’s construction was completed two solar cycles following the war in 3154 T.N. and consisted of only the primary conning tower and basic life support modules aligned upon the short spine of what would eventually become the primary support structure, now known as "The Blade of Elysium." 3168 T.N. brought along the official commissioning ceremony, classifying the Midway Space Station as a fully complete monolith.

The Midway Space Station is a state-of-the-art Quintumvirate designated station that provides a pivotal role in the overall space economy located within the gravity lock of the planetary system. The massive station functions in the form of a city, housing a maximum recorded population of 759,088 permanent residents who have made their home in space. Millions more visit each solar cycle for business, industry, leisure and thrills among the stars.

It is particularly a thriving center of trade and commerce, providing a massive hub for supply chain logistics, storage and distribution. As the primary seat of Orbital STC (Space Traffic Control), the Midway ensures safe and reliable navigation for space traffic of every designation. From station residents frolicking on a casual jaunt between spires and touring ships embarking on excursions, revealing the splendor of the stars to bright-eyed tourists. To the workforce mining the antediluvian debris field for rare and much needed resources, acting as the keystone of technological and societal progress. Occasionally an excavator will return from their deployment with a rare galvanized crystal that still holds its ancient charge, making it worth a fortune on the open market.

Beyond its many roles supporting local orbital endeavors however, the primary mission of the Midway Space Station emerges out of the necessity of supporting a moon colony until the lunar community achieves self sufficiency. The massive power, maneuverability and classified debris diversion capabilities of the space station, coupled with long term deployment efficiency, makes the Midway Space Station perfectly suited to traverse the antediluvian debris field that causes travel between planet and moon to be quite dangerous. It is widely rumored the station utilizes some of the last remaining Praetors that assist in the perilous journey.

Ever since construction began, the five planetary kingdoms along with the original architects of Meridian Incorporated continue to contribute to the expansion and maintenance of this majestic stellar gateway. Each kingdom has its own Lancer Class capital ship, which is given a permanent spacedock along with material support from station crew. A minimum contingent of three ships are always stationed here, maintaining balance and rotating obligations among the five.

A permanent staff of elite crew pilot, command and maintain the gigantic space station. They work in tandem with a separate small group of personnel who govern the station’s population and take care of the day-to-day lives of ordinary residents who call the Midway Space Station home. This governing group is organized and balanced by the Council of Elysium, though all representatives ultimately are ambassadors of their respective planetside kingdoms.

Optimal climate conditions for residents of the space station are maintained to the standards for ideal comfort and hospitality.
